For the first time in Capital Region Living 17-year history, the magazine is honoring the five people in the local nonprofit and charity orbit that they feel are at the apex of the giving game. These five individuals couldn’t be giving at a more crucial moment in time. The pandemic has tried and failed to send them off course; they’ve forged ahead, working longer hours to break new ground and keep their respective organizations afloat.
We couldn’t be prouder of Kristen Garzone who has been working with Every Mother Counts, a cause close to her heart due to her own experiences with Postpartum Depression (PPD). In addition to suffering from severe PPD, on June 2, 2017, when Kristen’s daughter Ellie was about 7 months old, her life changed forever when her close friend, Kristin, took her own life while suffering from Postpartum Depression.
Today, Kristen finds ways to honor her friend Kristin by spreading awareness and raising funds for PPD while running with Every Mother Counts. As a member of Run Team EMC, she was able to team up with a fellow ambassador to host an annual Virtual Run (Run to Believe 5K) starting back in 2018, to help celebrate Kristin on her birthday weekend, which is also Mother’s Day Weekend.
