  • Planting Argan Trees For Earth Day

מאת Jude Jacob Kayton אפריל 01, 2020

Planting Argan Trees For Earth Day

This month we are celebrating Earth Day and the power of trees. Our One Set, One Tree Program means that for every skincare set you buy, FRÉ plants an Argan tree, also known as the "Tree of Life," to help replenish the endangered argan forest and support women who harvest argan oil in Morocco.

This year, we are delighted to announce that thanks to your support we will plant a total of 18,000 Argan trees in 2020

And, since FRÉ was founded, we have planted a total of 33,000 trees.

These trees have a multi-layered impact by creating sustainable development, protecting the planet and empowering women. We are working together with the High Atlas Foundation (HAF) to fulfill a mission of catalyzing economic growth and endorsing grassroots development in disadvantaged communities throughout Morocco.

Argan is a driver of environmental protection, community growth and it is also the ingredient at the heart of our unique skincare solution.

Our Argania Active Complex is the magic ingredient in all our products: it’s a unique combination of argan oil, leaf water and stem cells that fights the signs of aging, breakouts and helps build skin resilience. All the argan we use at FRÉ comes from the Izourane Women’s Cooperative in Morocco.

Planting trees is part of our wider mission at FRÉ to lead change around the two issues we believe are essential at this time: protecting our planet and empowering women. We believe that our world is currently unbalanced, since women still do not fulfill their full leadership potential. When women are strong, the world is stronger. When women’s communities rise, whole societies rise.

    The impact of a tree

Trees alter a region by moderating its climate, improving its air quality, conserving water, and encouraging biodiversity, all of which are important for our ecosystems and as such our livelihoods on this planet. “On average, one acre of new forest can sequester about 2.5 tons of carbon annually. Young trees absorb CO2 at a rate of 13 pounds per tree each year. Trees reach their most productive stage of carbon storage at about 10 years at which point they are estimated to absorb 48 pounds of CO2 per year. At that rate, they release enough oxygen back into the atmosphere to support two human beings.”

    Argan trees and women’s empowerment
Argan trees provide the ability for women in Morocco’s cooperatives to financially support their communities and families, and to provide a better education for their children through harvesting argan oil. Argan oil is an important economy for locals and according to the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), argan trees support the livelihoods of 3 million Moroccans, about 10% of the country’s population, who use the husks as firewood, the fruit for animal fodder and the seeds to make precious oil.

We hope you will join us to continue planting and positively impacting the Earth, the forests and our communities!
