    Stop Post-Workout Breakouts

Lately we’ve been getting a lot of questions about breakouts; what causes them, how to treat them, and how to avoid them. We wanted to take this opportunity to answer your questions and tell you how to best treat those post-workout breakouts. To begin with, let’s look at why workouts make you break out.

So why do workouts cause breakouts?

You might have noticed that you break out much more when you work out. However you might be relieved to know it isn’t the exercise itself or even your sweat that makes those pimples appear. There are actually a number of factors (and behaviors) that are to blame for those irritating “friends”. One of the main reasons for breakouts is clogged pores, since they prevent your sweat from washing away the dirt and grime accumulated throughout the day, and keep it all on your skin.

Just as there are many reasons for breakouts, there are many reasons why your pores might be clogged, some of those include: your skincare, sunscreen or makeup. A lot of common makeup and skincare ingredients can really clog your pores (even products as innocent as Vaseline), which is why we make sure to only use the best ingredients in our products. FRÉ Enthusiast Sharon Koe says: “I kept waiting for my skin to react (it usually does after 2 weeks of using a new product) but it stayed calm”. According to dermatologist Dr. Hilary Reich it’s not always your skincare that’s to blame. In fact, your own skin cells might be the cause of pimples because: “When sweat from your workout mixes with oil, dead skin cells and bacteria that can overwhelm pores and lead to clogging.”

Now that we’ve looked at the cause of your breakouts, let’s talk about what to do to stop them in the first place, and how to prevent them from coming back.

So how exactly can you prevent breakouts?

Very simply, you should choose products, like the 123FRÉ set, that are non-comedogenic. This literally means the product won’t clog your pores, and will ensure that your products won’t hold in dirt and grime. You should look for this label on all skincare, be it sunscreen, lotions, or even makeup, especially if you choose to wear any while you exercise (although many dermatologists actually recommend you avoid makeup altogether when you work out).

Another good tip is to keep your skin clean. FRÉ Facial Skin expert and Facial Rejuvenation Artist Nousha Salimi recommends taking your cleanser to the gym and washing your hands and then your face after you exercise to remove dirt and bacteria. An easy way to remember is to simply carry a bottle of our PURIFY ME cleanser in your gym bag. Beyond buying non-comedogenic products and remembering to cleanse, you can also opt for skincare that is specially designed to prevent and treat breakouts, and work with your skin and active lifestyle. FRÉ Enthusiast Kellie Ames says: “ I switched to the 3 step process about 2 weeks ago and have to say it has completely revived my face”.

    Stop Post-Workout Breakouts

We all know that working out is great for your body, soul, and overall health. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, chemicals that trigger a positive and even euphoric high, sometimes known as “runner’s high”, and can lead to an overall feeling of positivity and high energy. And even better, when it comes to skin, according to Dermatologist Ellen Marmur, there are huge benefits. Essentially, anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant. When you exercise, you sweat, which as we’ve already established, helps to flush out grime and skin debris. This is already a step in the right direction towards glowing skin!

Having said all of that, there’s another reason you might be breaking out: over-cleansing.

    Don’t over-cleanse your skin!

After reading everything we said about keeping your skin healthy and clean, it’s understandable that your first move might be to grab that harsh facial scrub on the sink and rub away at your pores, but keep reading before you do that! Removing oil and grime isn’t a solution for everything, and in fact over-cleansing can actually dry out your delicate facial skin. The reason is that too much cleansing goes beyond removing the dirt and grime, and actually strips away the skin’s natural and essential oils. This in turn can cause your skin to overcompensate for the dryness, by producing even more oil than usual, and, you guessed it, ultimately gives you even more pimples.

Luckily there are solutions out there! For starters, once again we recommend avoiding skincare products with harsh alcohols or parabens that can dehydrate skin, and instead turning to a moisturizing cleanser. Vegan and natural cleansers tend to be gentler on skin, and a lot of them also moisturize, which is why we make our products with powerful natural plant based ingredients, such as Argan Oil.

So facial skin is delicate and needs special care (especially when you work out). How can FRÉ help?

Use FRÉ for a clear complexion

FRÉ Skincare is the only skincare range specially made for sweating skin. Our products are designed to prevent and treat post-sweat breakouts, as well as repair and fight dehydration, and the signs of aging. All our products are non-comedogenic, so they won’t clog your skin's pores or cause irritation. FRÉ is also vegan and doesn’t contain harsh chemicals or drying alcohols, so the products are gentle on your skin, and help maintain your skin’s natural pH balance.

Want to know the secret to our skincare? Well it’s no secret! We use Argan. Argan oil has been used for centuries to cure skin, hair and health ailments, among other things, and it is great for preventing and treating breakouts.

Why did we choose Argan? Simple, Argan oil is rich in oleic acid, an emulsifier that blends water and oil and makes cleansers more effective. Argan oil is also rich in linoleic acid, which has strong anti-inflammatory properties. And the Polyphenols in Argan oil encourage the exfoliation of dead skin cells and the formation of new, healthy skin cells. FRÉ’s solution takes Argan one step further through its unique Argania Active Complex© that combines Argan oil with leaf-water and Argan stem cells to repair skin damage and deeply hydrate dry skin, leaving you with a clear complexion.

Hear what our fans and loyal consumers have said, because they, just like you, are dealing with the effects of breakouts and irritation.
