    Summer Skincare for Normal Skin

It’s official: summer is here! And while temperatures start to skyrocket, our workouts are getting sweatier than ever before (especially if they are outdoors). But don’t let that stop you exercising. The benefits of sunshine, fresh air, and a workout are huge, from boosted energy to essential Vitamin D.

While all our products answer the needs of normal skin type, if we had to give one recommendation, it would be PROTECT ME, our daily moisturizer with SPF30.

    Workouts can cause breakouts

Unfortunately, the combination of sun and sweat can cause some serious skin damage. For starters photosensitivity to UV rays, sun damage and premature aging are worsened by sweat. And for those of you who do particularly intense workouts, high-impact exercise can actually cause anti-oxidative stress, leading to collagen degeneration, and a loss in elasticity and firmness. Next, we have the issue of dehydration, which can cause over-dryness. The bad news is that pimples, blackheads, and blotches can result from sweat and dirt clogged pores, while sun damage can cause premature aging.

    Prevent skin damage with SPF

The good news is you don’t need to stop working out. Skin damage can be prevented (and repaired) by the right products. So before you start working out, and in fact, before you leave the house: apply SPF. Having a robust and highly moisturizing SPF cream that won’t block pores but will keep you protected from sun will change the way you workout and keep your skin glowing. It’s an essential part of your workout routine.

    Choosing an SPF: Broad Spectrum

Not all SPFs are made equal and there are a number of things you should keep in mind when choosing one. SPF means Sun Protection Factor and usually means a product protects you against UVB rays. UVB rays are what cause sunburn BUT you should always opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen which also protects against UVA and IRA damage. These are the rays that cause long-term skin damage, premature skin aging (and yes, skin cancer).

    Avoid harmful substances

Lots of commercial SPFs have questionable lists of ingredients that are often packed with harmful chemicals like parabens or mineral oil. The bad news is, a number of dermatological studies have suggested a link between parabens and breast cancer. Mineral oil is actually made from petroleum as a by-product of the process that creates gasoline. It is known to block pores and can contain nasty chemicals. It’s important to avoid these ingredients and instead opt for natural, hypoallergenic and moisturizing ingredients.

    Escape the white residue!

Technically it’s not bad for your skin, but, if you are worried about the white cast that makes you look like a ghost whenever you work out, there are solutions. The white residue is caused by one of two mineral sunscreens – zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. The good news is that there are sheer and blendable SPF creams out there that will give you all the broad-spectrum protection you need without the annoying ghost-face.

    Sweat better with PROTECT ME

FRÉ’s PROTECT ME SPF moisturizer is a broad-spectrum SPF that ensures your skin is protected before you work out. It’s free of harsh chemicals like parabens and mineral oil and is 100% vegan so you can sweat without clogging your pores. PROTECT ME is based on Argania Active Complex©, a formula developed especially for skin that sweats. Based on stem cells and leaf water from the famous Argan desert tree, FRÉ’s unique formula ensures that your skin is nourished and moisturized while you sweat. The formula is also sweat-proof (for up to 80 minutes) which means you can sweat with FRÉ without having to reapply.
