Tanner Hobbs - Faith, Food, and Fitness

    Age: 24

    Ambassador since: September 2017

Occupation: Life, Health, and Fitness coach.

Tanner like so many other women entered the fitness world through childhood sports. She was scouted for college division II softball, which ultimately led her on her path towards faith, nutrition, and health coaching.

    Getting On The Right Path:

Within my first year of pitching for my college, I tore my labrum on my hip, and had to sit out during my first season, and I was told I may never pitch again. I was devastated. Looking back now, I realize it was God telling me that I wasn’t meant to be a pitcher. I started focusing more on my economics degree, hitting the gym more, and focusing on my nutrition. Soon people started taking notice and asking me how I managed to balance it all. The truth was that since I wasn’t doing anything at softball practice anymore I felt like I needed to supplement it. Eventually, I got certified as a personal trainer and realized I wanted to help people replace old, bad habits with good habits. After I got married, I had the freedom to start my own business: a health and fitness coach and a mentor for other women looking to be entrepreneurs. The Chasing Freedom Movement is all about helping each woman find the freedom from any given obstacles she faces in her life. To give them a space and community to help them progress.

    Faith First:

"It’s my entire life now; my faith holds my life together."

I grew up in a Baptist Christian family, going to church every Sunday. Unfortunately, I always had a lukewarm relationship with my religion. I never really dove into it. There would be times I’d go to services, but I did not feel inspired. It wasn’t until right before I met my husband, Derek, that I found myself craving a deep religious connection. I felt I was completely on my own, paying my own bills, away from my family, and going through a life change. That was about four years ago, when I truly embraced my religion. It’s my entire life now; my faith holds my life together. I met a man who also puts his faith first. Before I met my husband, I didn’t realize how much I needed a partner that accompanied me in my faith.

    Your Fitness Fit:

Fitness looks different on everyone.. It’s going to change constantly, and you have to learn how to pivot with it and be open to change and discovering what feels good to you. Fitness doesn’t have to feel like a chore; it can truly be your lifestyle if you’re open to it. It’s all about being in the right mindset, not thinking, ‘oh I hate running!,’ well who told you that you have to run? If you’re open to it, then it’ll be a great experience. It’s ok not to go to the gym. When motivation is low, discipline has to step in. I’m not motivated all the time, but I tell myself I’m a disciplined person. If I feel good, then I know I need to get up and move my body. If I don’t feel good or work is piling up and I have to get things done for my clients, then it’s ok to not go to the gym.

    Food for Fitness:

Fitness is a word that’s thrown around a lot, but I think a healthy body is more about the words discipline and nutrition. There are so many benefits to fitness, but you can lift every single day for three-hours and if you have really crappy nutrition, you could lose years off your life. I’m not really focused on the word fitness, but rather nutrition.

"There’s no product in the world that can fix a really crappy diet."

I call it the ‘eat pretty’ mantra. If you look down at your food and can’t say the meal will make you pretty, glow, or energized, then you should ask yourself, are you helping your body in any way? The word fitness always makes me cringe a little, because when people ask me about fitness I ask them, ‘well, how’s your nutrition?’ If you really want to glow, are you pairing your skincare with nutrition? You need to do both to really get the benefits. There’s no product in the world that can fix a really crappy diet. If you take care of what goes into your body, as well as pairing it with a great skincare routine, like FRÉs, then your whole look will change.
